Welcome to Reception - 'Let the fun begin'
Early Years education is the foundation upon which children build the rest of their lives and it encompasses all learning. We aim to build upon that which you so ably started before your child started school.

The Reception Class is part of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) where the children learn through play, engage in exciting hands-on experiences and develop a wealth of knowledge. We follow the curriculum as set out by the government covering the three Prime areas of learning: Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED), Communication and Language (CL) and Physical Development, and the Specific areas of learning: Literacy (L), Mathematics (M), Understanding the World (UW) and Expressive Arts & Design (EAD). All areas of learning are important at this stage and the planning and activities are based around this.

We aim to cover a range of topics, each focusing on particular Areas of Learning and Early Learning Goals. Our topics include, All About Me, Let’s Celebrate, A Seaside Adventure, Off We Go and Beanstalks and Butterflies.

The staff within the Reception class work closely together to ensure that the provision available to the children is well-resourced and planned in depth to maximise the learning of each individual in a safe and exciting environment. CURRICULUM INFORMATION 2019-2020 - Reception Autumn 2019 Term 1 Theme Map: Marvellous Me!

We have been so proud of how our new Reception children have settled into school. Our main aim this term is to ensure children have a smooth transition from their preschool/home setting into their new Reception classes. Our 'Marvellous Me' theme is all about the children themselves! We will be sharing information about ourselves, our families and our friends. We will also be exploring our new surroundings at Lakeside as well as the local area. We will be learning about what makes us special and unique. We will have many first hand experiences where we can explore using all our senses as well as developing an understanding of how we can keep healthy. We will be part of a team as we make new friends and become confident to try new activities. We will explore our inner chef and create some scrumptious pizzas, bread and biscuits. As successful learners we will: * be playing and exploring * be active in our learning * be creating and thinking critically. Our stimulating indoor and outdoor classrooms is ever changing in response to children's learning, with a variety of activities to challenge us. We will encourage children to explore a range of different learning whilst having a lot of fun! Don't forget to keep checking back to our class page and twitter to find out about all our news.

This half term we will be continuing to get to know each other even more. We will be looking back at when our life began as a baby and how we have grown so far, discussing the changes we have seen. We will then look towards the future sharing our hopes and dreams as well as what and where we want to be when we grow up. We will explore the different jobs that people do to help within our local community. We will experience a range of fantastic first hand experiences which will inspire our future learning. We will also be building up to our Christmas performance which will be one to remember!
