What is the role of the governing body?
“The role of school governors is to set strategic direction, to hold school leaders to account
for improving performance, and to make sure money is well spent”
Department for Education
What does this mean at Lakeside?
As a governing body, we focus our work on:
The governing body at Lakeside comprises volunteers from the local community, parents, and staff. The central purpose of the governing body is to hold the headteacher to account for the development of the young people in our charge through the quality of teaching within the school. Working with the headteacher, we set the vision and strategic development plan for the school. We also oversee how the school spends its money by making sure the school stays within budget and receives value for money for services and items purchased.
We do this by regularly reviewing data from the school, meeting with each other, the staff, surveying parents, and visiting the school to observe the implementation of the School Development Plan, school policies, and curriculum.
There are currently 12 Governors who are all committed volunteers, supported by a professional clerk. Proud to be part of the Lakeside family, they bring a wealth of experience and skills to Lakeside from a variety of backgrounds and are motivated to make Lakeside a wonderful place for learning.
Our team has expertise in education, through our Staff Governor, Local Authority Governor, and two of our Parent Governors. We also have a wealth of governors with commercial and public sector experience including finance, marketing, property management, IT/software, security, military, HR, change management, project management, and marketing.
What does the structure of the governing body look like?
We currently have two associate governors plus the deputy head teacher, totalling three associates.
